Good article. While I certainly believe that Leary's "acid populism" was a flawed strategy, to say the least, the idea that these things can be contained on any meaningful level is just as flawed. The solution will obviously have to lie somewhere in between two such extremes. And while there is a certain amount of reckless behavior involving these drugs, particularly among teenagers, this too is inevitable. Young people tend to be a bit reckless with everything, cars, alcohol, their genitals, the list goes on... And furthermore, any type of technology is going to be abused by a certain fraction of the population. The author of the WebMD article, I believe, fails to recognize this.

All this is not to say I think people should be reckless with psychedelics, especially given the current promising state of academic research in this field. This is why organizations such as bluelight, dancesafe, etc are so important. The more educated people are about psychedelics, or any substance for that matter, the less likely they are to do something regrettable. Also, the more society at large is educated regarding such things, the less likely they are to blame the substance as opposed to the real culprit, which is almost invariably going to be either ignorance or irresponsibility.

and I've had experiences with other psychs too. I can say this one smacks down harder, but it wears off fast. It didn't stop my addictions, but psilocybin did. and I would recommend that over anything else.

yeaaah, I've had uncontrollable laughing fits, but mostly because I couldn't figure out what anything in the room was, or why i was flying in all different directions. I've had salvia more times than I can count, and it is extremely intense. I wouldn't call it a feel good drug, but an intense experience for sure. I've gone to alternate universes, melted through and existed in several parts of a house in pixelated form, gotten "stuck" in a bookcase, had my knees become train depots for the endless information track, died (mentally), seen objects breathe, flown at a million miles an hour, had time stop several times, had my hands roll in endless circles on my wrists, and sooo many more things. Not always welcome, but always interesting.
